Protecting Wildlife, Preserving The Future

14 Aug 2024

Mandai Nature, the conservation arm of Mandai Wildlife Group and part of the Temasek Trust ecosystem, has released its impact report for the financial year 2023/2024.

Titled Protecting Wildlife, Preserving The Future, the report showcases Mandai Nature’s significant strides in protecting and preserving the biodiversity of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Singapore, and Southeast Asia — positively impacting species, habitats, and communities. This was made possible with the support of its dedicated partners in the field.

Across the region, the conservation organisation continued its commitment to IUCN's framework of Assess, Plan, and Act for species recovery in its regional conservation efforts. Mandai Nature has targeted conservation actions for more than 50 threatened Southeast Asian species through the funding of over 40 conservation projects. These efforts not only protect wildlife, but also have a positive spillover effect on local communities, enhancing ecosystems and improving livelihoods.

Among the impact highlights are:

  • 78 species of herpetofauna and birds recorded during surveys in wildlife parks at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve
  • 1,198 rescued wildlife admitted to Mandai Wildlife Group’s Wildlife Healthcare and Research Centre
  • More than S$125,000 awarded to Singapore researchers to conduct projects focused on protecting native wildlife
  • Over 300 aspiring conservationists attended World Wildlife Day Regional Youth Symposium 2024
  • A new programme pillar, which aims to cultivate future conservation leaders and develop Southeast Asia's talent pipeline
  • More than 78,000 seedlings planted in Southeast Asia as part of forest restoration of enhancement efforts
